Which CAI to Go with?

On my 06 running a k&n. Ran it without tune before I had my programmer without issue. Been running it with my diablosport tuner with k&n tune for over a year. Only complaint is it has a high pitched whistle as if I have a custom throttle body spacer, but I am used to it now. Love the wot sound though.

I'm far from an expert, but the high pitched whistle could be a vacuum leak...you don't want that, if it's after the MAF I'm not sure it would through a code, and you could be running very lean and burn a piston.
As I said I'm no expert, and I might be worried about nothing, but I'd rather throw it out there, and be wrong, than see someone ruin an engine.

The volant also has a ram air scoop that pulls air threw the tow hook. It's sold separately... I will pick up the scoop if it pops up used on a forum or CL, but I would disconnect it at the coupler if your gonna do any deep mudding or stream crossings..
The volant gets a ram air function from under the drivers side head light, pulls air from the fender and then a 3" round down pipe you can connect the ram air scoop too.

If I was forced to choose, I'd just stick with the Gotts, but if I had to I'd go with a Volant with custom tunes. Why Volant: Powercore filter. I can't understand how every discussion about intakes go by without talking about filtration. An intake has two major functions, to filter the air going into the motor. That somehow gets overlooked by the other function of how it draws air in by armchair engineers. The Powercore is the filter Ford used on the Superduty trucks for a while. It is one of the few aftermarket filters that doesn't sacrifice filtration. Any intake you go with will need a custom tune to ensure the a/f is correct.

Very true. I have the oiled filter that came with it at the moment, but I ordered the power core 100,000 mile filter last week.. Hopefully I will have it on Monday.
I told myself I wouldn't bother with a CAI or a drop in K&N for just those reasons, but I could not say no to the Volant when the price was $0.00.... I scored it off of craigslist with a SCT xcalibrator 2 SF, and a full Roush cat back dual exhaust... I payed $300 for everything. I then sold the exhaust for $350 making the tuner and volant free plus a $50 dollar bonus that I put towards the power core filter.... I love Craigslist!
I'm gonna sell the SCT xcal 2 on here soon if Craigslist doesn't bring me a local sale.
I got the edge CS with custom tunes pending for download from PHP. I'm running the Tow tune for the time being, and the power is noticeably better then Tow tuned with the gotts mod.

You're probably right and it's fine. I don't mean to poke my nose where it doesn't belong, just trying to be helpful. Plus if you can get rid of the noise, sounds like you'd be happier . I would check the gaskets around the throttle body and the spacer. On carbs we used to cover the intake with our hands and see if it was sucking air elsewhere. I'm not sure if it would work on the throttle body, but I don't see why it wouldn't. By intake I mean, remove the CAI and cover the top of the throttle body. Obviously be careful not to let anything fall into it.
