Default 04 F150 Transmission problem - 59,980 miles

Hello, I have a 2004 super crew F150 4x4 lariat with 59,980 miles with the 5.4 liter and tow package. I called the dealer the other day because of a suspected left side exhaust gasket leak, and after using the truck over the weekend in 4wd mode pulling tree branches at the farm, the "Transmission Malfunction" warning light comes on, and the truck doesn't shift or accellerate correctly.

Does anyone know of any recalls on this transmission? Thanks for your assistance.

I was told that the transmission needs to be replaced and that it wouldn't be under warranty because there was mud on the undercarrage and it was "stuck" and used for "pulling something other than a trailer". Complete horse crap!!! I had the extended warranty too.

Oh, they want to see the receipt from my 30,000 mile tranny flush, but I lost that. Now what do I do? It was 2 years ago, and I think they're out of business now.

just my luck, the dealer wants $2,800 for a new tranny...

Yea, go to a different dealer, some are *****holes and some aren't. Clean it up if it needs it and go elsewhere. Otherwise file a complaint with BBB and Ford about the issue. Good luck with it

I just talked with the dealer, they wanted to do it as warranty, but "Old Republic Insurance Company" who the ext warranty is thru won't cover it because I got stuck. No friggin ****. So, if you ever get a truck stuck, don't try getting it out, don't spin a tire is what I'm being told. Once you spin the tires, and the fluids get hot and smell burnt, it won't be covered. I can't believe that FORD puts together such a ****ty tranny. Look at all their dang ads. I don't think I'll ever buy a ford truck now.

Read over your extended warranty VERY carefully. Make them show you where it says if you get stuck they will not warrany the transmission. Ford builds a GREAT truck. I don't know what you are pulling I am not saying you did anything wrong, but if you are pulling something @ low speed for a period of time then yes the fluid will get VERY hot beucause there is no air going over the cooler other than what the fan will pull thru it. I know of MANY MANY Ford trucks that pull over thier "rated towing capacity" and don't have a problem.
