I am around saint louis, the truck came from springfeild IL. Everything else is solid which is why I want to get it fixed . I am concerned that a shop would have trouble doing the work as it seems pretty involved. Is this type of work normal for a body shop?

Yes, if you live in a rust prone area.

^^I had some of mine start to rust out on the sides, the little stiffness rod going to the rail from the bed body rotted right off where it attached to the rail. For that u dont need a body shop tho if its not too bad, just wire wheel and spray with rust encapsulator. Thats what i did and hasnt got any worst. To get at it really good take the bed off to get better access. The worst spot i have for rust other than cab corners is the scoop/pocket ribs that go from the rockers to the bottom of cab/floor. I think theres maybe 3 along each side. When i got my 2005 this year they were packed with salt and dirt, and when wirebrushing some of them just fell apart to peices. Dont seem too important structually... Poor design to capture all the road grime up here in mass.

I've replaced my cab corners and rockers on my truck its a lot cheaper if u take it to someone with the pre-bent metal blanks like above to do the repair job mine cost me 350 bucks labor and materials to cut out and weld the new in and paint it to match! Additionally after this is done seal the unseen bottom with bedliner to protect it and wax the bottom door skins the attract everything

124K miles and no rust yet (knock on wood). Keep your ride clean is all I can say. People think I'm nuts for detailing it inside and out once a week when it's warm out. They also think I'm nuts for going to the car wash to rinse her off every week during the winter. I think not.

I had my front bumper forming more and more rust spots and bubbles.
Also, noticed a rusty crack on cab starting at the middle of windshield. Glad I caught it and went ahead and got it fixed.
Just a warning, New front bumper, with fog light cut outs this time, a touch up of paint around the grille and Fixing the cab spot and painting it, $1500.
From what it sounded like, my truck had an aftermarket windshield which I was unaware of, and it was not installed well, they used a bit to much glue or whatever, probably started the small paint crack.

Just ordered the cab corners from RockAuto, didnt order the rockers as they were pretty expensive and was unsure if a shop would use them or just make there own.
