Default Buying FX4. Ticking noise. NEED HELP!!!

Went to look at an 04 FX4 and made an offer of 11.5k. Has 87,500 miles. Excellent condition. The guy said he replaced the VCT solenoids, cam phasers, and the timing chain.

It still makes the clicking noise though. See video:

Is this normal still? Or what should I do? Any advice would help!

Thanks!

A loose one will make a ticking noise, as will a cracked coil boot.

Should it keep me from buying it though?

What oil did he use? And What filter..
That honestly sounded mostly like injector ticking with a hint of phaser noise. Nothing wrong with that. The phasers will always make a slight noise.. But when it's parked next to a wall or in a drive through and you can hear it good, then that is the notorious tick.

How long ago was all the work performed?

I believe he said 5W-20 or 5W-30 synthetic. Not sure about the air filter though.

He did all the phaser work in February and changed the oil then as well.

Also said he hasn't drove it too much since then maybe 500 miles, it makes me a little leery

I meant to say oil filter... He should not be using anything but a motorcraft oil filter. The silicon check valve in these filters is important to the timing system of these trucks.
Since he revamped the timing system and did not drive it after, I'd be a little leery too... But you never know... Good deals come in all shapes and sizes... Use your skepticism to work that price down.

i just bought one also, had a tick, searched all over engine with stethoscope, sounded like it was coming from deep in the engine, almost thought it was a lifter, started changing the spark plugs and found 2 loose ones, the cop boots were covered in soot, no more tick,

easy way to verify is to pull coils and look for dirty boots
