I'd take your paperwork and findings to Ford. If nothing else it's a good place to start at finding out if this is a 1 time freak accident or faulty wiring on their part.

That seems sketchy as hell. Glad the rest of your truck didn't burn up. Hopefully you can find a wiring harness from a local junkyard or something fairly cheap. Have you gotten estimates on replacement parts? 2500 seems a little low ball for new parts.

the reason it's low there not covering the wire harness's ... What gets me is ford doesn't even make the wire harness any more . No aftermarket options either. Only option is a junk yard. I have to find the the one that matches my truck options exactly. Which is harder then I would have imagined... I had it towed to a ford dealer that I've always worked with and they had it 2 weeks befor saying they couldn't get the wire harness

Nope ! The insurance company says the cause of fire was a failure between the dash wire harness and the body wire harness. The insurance doesn't cover what caused the fire , only the resulting damage. In other words there not paying for either wire harness or cost to replace. They are paying for a new dash, clean interior , hood release cable , and a few other melted parts. After research and talking to other people in the insurance industry, this is the case in almost all insurance companies polices involving a fire. I wish it would have been something I wired like a radio or lights . The full wire harness's are expensive and hard to find.
This is terrible! I'm curious though...was it the insurance company that investigated the cause or an independent shop not affiliated with the insurance company? By saying it was the harness, they've essentially shunted the responsibility to Ford for the faulty wiring. I'm curious to know how Ford would respond to this.
I've never heard of this type of event happening on the 2004-2008 gen. trucks.
I hope nothing else behind the dash (or airbag wiring) was compromised by the fire. Good luck with the repair

So will you be seeking more $ from the insurance since it was confirmed it wasn't anything you did? If not I'd be shopping for another insurance provider if I were you....

That's impressive that Ford admitted to that! They basically admitted to a faulty design that had you incurred damage beyond the truck burning (ie. garage, house) they've just made themselves libel. Normally, when faced with the possibility of forced recalls, automakers send there teams of lawyers to argue that they aren't responsible.
I agree with the above poster. Time to shop around for a better insurance company. This was a non modified harness from a manufacturer that failed and caused considerable damage. Totally within the realm of vehicle coverage.
As the truck owner, I'd also like to know what failed in the harness itself so it's not replaced with a part with the same flaw. Might be worth asking...
