I have 198xxx on the car, Last fall at 188,xxx I changed the rotors, pads and tires with the intention of giving the car to her. I Decided it was a great because of the NEW tires, pads and rotors, a rebuilt enfdint at 128k and a trans at 136k. in addition to that it had ABS, Air bags, front wheel drive and traction control. Rest assured I am far more concerened with some bone head punk with a lift kit and 35's, than I am with a cracked brake pad. I am not sure how a cracked brake pad could be a huge risk. In fact I speculate that a pad with more metalic material would be more dangerous should a pad fail. I say this because the distance a caliper retracts during a non-breaking time is far less of a gap. If it were to lose the bonding between the friction material and the pad "frame" there would be no hope of getting the metal of the "frame" to make contact with the rotor, However a brake pad that has consumed all the friction material will not have to travel as far. The car WILL stop metal on metal far better than it does metal on air.

A cracked pad can let loose and jam between the rotor and bring the car to a screeching halt...it locks up the wheels right there...but i am some bonehead punk on 35's ...i guarantee that i can outwrench you old man

I suppose next you are going to tell me you dad can beat up mine?
funny how you hide behind your keyboard up there in the land of Marquip. I suppose I could I could play your little trivial game and say I could out whatever you. I don't need to do that, I suspect you might have gone to school and have your littl certificate that you passed a ASE test that says you are a mechanic. I have certifications of my own that I don't need to brag about. I used to work in the auto industry. I bet you are friends with many people that want cheap work done on their car, I also suspect that is the only time your phone rings. You have a special arrogance about you that only a mother could love.

ha ha, no i think it's funny the typical cheapskate that don't fix anything until it's broke and then shoot off his mouth about some punk with his truck on 35's and then not know what a cracked brake pad is a bad thing, when he worked in the auto industry, what where you the guy who put on the tire shine on? i bet the only time your daughter calls is when she needs her car fixed. little piece of paper just like what you claim to have too..arrogant no, just educated. land of marquip, lol, aren't you just the geography buff, you know a company in our town.

It's the internet. Didn't you know everyone is a tough guy and know it all here? And if you call them out on something, they can't handle the facts. Oh and I haven't met one person on these auto forums that isn't an ASE certified tech. Must be quite easy to get certified these days.

SOme people do come on here to try and learn somethings, They may seam stupid things to some of the more experanced people but it is a way of learning.

Everybody is good at something and every has to start learning somewhere. with no questions, no one would ever learn, knowledge will be lost over time.
