Default Brake switch bushing question

All,

I have been having trouble with my brake lights so I bought a new switch. After I replaced it nothing worked at all. Couldn't get the interlock to even let me out of park. So I crawled back up under there and started testing. Appears the pushrod end is worn and not making contact with the button on the switch. If I take the little plastic bushing out then the rod makes contact and works. My questions are, how important is the bushing, any ideas on how to get this to work with the bushing in, and anybody else ever have this problem?

Thanks

Just a thought
Does the push rod have any adjustment (threaded ?) on the other end?

I don't know, I'll have to take a look again. I don't think it does on the end inside the cab. Also I don't think it would make a difference. When the bushing centers the end it does not make contact like it should.

JimBoy I did not figure it out. It has been working fine without the bushing. I just hope it doesn't lead to problems down the road.
