Summers22 that's right I guess I'll have to see what happens with mine lol. Another question (sorry I'm really new to this) why are we adjusting the timing? Is there a certain octane I should use with these tunes?

If you adjust timing to the plus side (only AFTER) running a tank or 2 of higher octane gas, then it will increase performance. Do this with caution. Even though I only run 91 octane, my timing is only bumped by +.25 to stay conservative.

Bossgame thanks! That was definitely helpful!! Summers22 what would happen if I adjust everything else except that timing? Would that be an issue of cause problems?

You can adjust everything else and not the timing, wont hurt a thing.

I'll post my setup here also.

2008 4.6 Screw
Running on lvl 2 with 89 octane
+ 10 for shift firmness all gears
+.50 on timing (again as summers said listen for pinging)
Set tire and axle size and now I have fun with it she has a CAI and a single chamber muffler dumped b4 the rear axle. I love it think I have her dialed in perfect just play with your settings until you find the ones you like. And don't be afraid to ask questions I was in your position almost a year ago when I got my Evo. Believe me I asked a ton of questions.

So I emailed Bill at PHP last night and asked him about timing and octane this is what he wrote back to me today.

The canned Evo tunes are a touch conservative, so you should be able to add 2-3 degrees to the canned 87 Octane tunes without any concern at all. If you run 89 Octane, you can add up to 5 degrees.

It does not hurt the ECM to reflash it. I've reflashed test PCM hundreds, if not thousands, of times without incident. You shouldn't have any worries.

Now I haven't done this yet but almost everyone I've talked to swears by PHP and Bill so.

Please set your timing to plus 5 degrees and take a test drive and tell me how it runs. Now, Bill is 100000000000000000 times smarter than me, but I wouldnt trust that on my truck at all.

I'm kind of nervous to do this lol I've read that a guy on another forum was running plus 4 on 87 with no problems
