I have noticed that most who have this issue have an aftermarket intake. When I bought my truck it had dual flowmaster exhaust with a cat delete and did this on occasion, then I added my Banks intake and it seemed to make it worse. I have heard stuff about foam, some part on your rear axle, etc. Here's what FIXED my problem: a tune. I bought a used DiabloSport tuner and I am simply running the canned tune at the moment for exhaust/Rousch intake and my truck has this problem no more! It is a completely different truck now...when I punch it man it goes! There's no way a stock S10 could hang with me like an above poster mentioned...lol. Seriously consider a tune if you have add on performance parts to fix your problem, that's all i did. If you have this problem and are stock then I don't know what to tell you....
Did you custom tune it yourself or did you just use the pre-programmed tune on the tuner? I have a JET Performance programmer, but I am just using the EZ Tune that is on it. I have the Banks RAM intake on my 2008 Ford F-150 as well.

Just bought an '06 xlt on a cold day. No issues. Warm weather rolls in. This problem starts to show, and I say, "crap, my tranny." But then I found this link. Five minutes and five dollars later, I'm a very happy man. No more down shifts to fourth going ten miles an hour.

This fix works. If not, then just follow the chain of MAF sensor, throttle body clean, spark plug change until it does work...All hail Ford F 150.

unfortunately did not work for me. My seal was also pretty much gone, bought some new foam seal but still get that initial bog down issue when accelerating hard. At least I have a nicely sealed air filter box.. worth a try but did not work for me.. my issue is something else...

hi, not sure why the links not working for you but I would just pull out your air filter and the black frame that you pull out that houses the air filter will have a foam type material, about 1/2 wide that runs along the bottom/side of the frame. yours may be totally gone but you should still be able to see the sticky residue left behind or you may have the foam still intact or partially crumbling.
its easy to check and see by just pulling out the air filter.

Just did it today and reset my PCM afterwards. Truck runs so much better. It used to bog out every time I accelerated at 1700-2000rpms. I noticed the hot weather does play a role with it. Here in Florida, you can only imagine how bad it bogged. I was honestly embarrassed to let friends drive my truck with such a loss of power. The $3.00 I spent at Walmart brought the ole ford back to life. Appreciate the post. I've been searching for solutions all day

It is simple weather striping, about 3/4 inch wide. One side has adhesive on it. Home Depot, Lowes and probably Walmart has it for about $3.00
