amazing 20 cent fix...LOL

2006 Ford F150 5.4L King Ranch 4X4 214,455KM..runs like a dream

Hey guys dont overlook getting that transmission fluid/transfer case and differential oil changed...its cheaper than those items seizing up on ya...maybe thats why I been lucky getting this many miles on my truck..well plus changing my oil every 4000km...I love my truck

Default thanks for the info

I also used a couple of layers of foan insulation for around doors and This worked great on mine..doesnt bog down anymore...keep a watch on it when you get your oil changed cause the oil and filter guys dont seem to know about it when they check your filter and sometimes fold the sponge down or dont seat the filter properly when they put it back in..."""CHECK IT YOURSELF""" after you drive out of there...thanks for the info on this...it was a great help

If your having issues with no power accelerating bog's down or is making a strange noise on start-up check this foam gasket on your air filter holder...amazing how much better my truck runs just by replacing this

Left is the old one (missing gasket but can see where it was once there) right is new one with foam

My 2004 5.4 with 160000 miles was doing this badly. This problem has been bugging me for months. Took it to a factory Ford mechanic, he drove it for awhile with his diagnostic tools hooked up and found nothing. He tried replacing the MAF sensor, no luck. He sent the truck home with me thinking eventually it will throw a code... I then found this thread. It completely fixed my issue. I'm still in shock. I was about ready to sell the truck! Thanks guys! Mark.

Im in MI. Im with ya on that. 06 f-250 super duty 5.4l 3ohc. Now if some one can figure that out we would be set to....

How could I have missed out on this for so long! Went to Lowes and got some foam adhesive back weather stripping 3/8" thick X 1/2" wide and put it all the way around, even on top, and the difference is unbelievable. The foam that Ford put on the sides and bottom was completely gone. All that was left was the adhesive strip that WAS on the back of the foam. Everything sounds completely different.......and that's a GOOD thing.

These forums are awesome sometimes in the simplicity of their help.

Thumbs up Great Post

Thank you for the tip...Anyone who hasn't looked at replacing the foam on theirs really ought to. I was having an issue with a P0174 code, spent $3.xx at Walmart (only place open at midnight around here), what a difference. The code hasn't come back on since, but even the improvement in the sound of the truck is well worth the price. Again, Thanks.
