Once you see that cancer starting, you got to nip it in the bud. I caught mine before it was really bad, pretty much right when it started peeling the paint. The water stays under the paint peel and rusts that metal very quickly..
That damn liquid brine the DOT uses is even worse than the salt was.

Very true. I prefer the sand/salt mix over the cancer spray.

The worst is getting stuck behind one when they are spraying.

Oh hell no. I'd either get by quick or slow down and bail off the closest exit or side road.

Was wondering how that repair using the rtv ended up holding up after a few more winters?

Mine started flaking this winter, just sanded repainted and will prob do the silicone seal if thats what seems to work to keep it from coming back.

I am curious, as well. I will also be dealing with some rust issues. What have you guys found that is the best rust encapsulator? I am grinding down some rust on the bottom of my wheel wells, and then I'll be encapsulating, using touch up paint, and getting fender flares that are PTM.

The best shop I found near Chicago was going to charge me $2500 just to replace a panel.

Ive had good results with eastwood rubberized rust encapsulator spray cans. Rubberized seems to be heavier duty than the regular one. Go with spray can unless you want the quart to dry in the can while applying is what I've heard. I've only used the cans.
