blue dash lights

Hi.
Actually - a few folks in those links above left the green film in place. Using wide-angled blue LED's will power right though it - green film is relatively transparent to blue light.
You can easily and quickly test this on the single LED replacement in the center console shifter. It comes out a very nice blue using a #194.

If I remember correctly, I think guys with trucks pre 2004 can get away with just swapping bulbs because the green film isn't nearly as dense as it is on 04-08. The guy who posted this write up http://www.fordf150.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=63465 definitely owns a pre 2004 truck and in my opinion thats why it worked without taking off the film.
From these links you provided, these guys removed the green film. I think to achieve the best results you have to remove the film.

But like I said, I really do hope it works without taking the film off. I look forward to seeing pictures after silverbullet is done with this swap.

I hope you are correct. If this does work for silverbullet, I will immediately buy bulbs and swap mine out. Do you happen to have a picture of the one you tested in the center console shifter?

If the effort involved to remove needles and stripping film does not daunt you, then go for it, as this will produce the best results. There will be a color difference. I find that the 'blue/aqua' color is sufficient. Additionally, the actual LED blue wavelength makes a difference ( they are not all the same ).
The cluster is not the real work ( straight bulb swap, assuming no film stripping) - it's the switches and center stack that makes or breaks this mod if color uniformity is desired throughout the interior. Those require some skill to replace.

Blue led lights
I was wondering if you put those lights in yet. I plan on doing just a bulb replacement. I have no interest in ripping the cluster apart unless it's seems doing as I'm replacing the bulbs. I was just wondering how the needles came out. I would like to have the blue background with the red needles lit up. Do you know how I can make that possible

I actually did mine about 4 yrs ago and I did have to take off the green film and looked a lot better.

I did mine about a year and a half ago. I tried leaving the green on. That's fine if you want a Teal colored display. Personally, I think the added effort to remove the green film is WELL worth it.
(Keep in mind, it was still VERY bright outside when I took the photos.)
