Default Black fender flares and chrome rocker panels...

I just bought this truck on Tuesday...

As you can see it has the chrome rocker panel trim along the bottom. The trim is in great shape but I'm not a huge fan of it. I have a couple of questions:

If I tried to remove the trim would I damage the paint underneath?
I'm not sure how they are held on but they seem to be on there pretty good and I don't want to take the chance on removing them if there is a possibility i could ruin the paint.

How do you think it would look with black fender flares?
I got a line on some brand new style scene fender flares on Craigslist for $240 and I'm looking into having the bumpers and side steps powder coated black. I'm playing with the idea of leaving the chrome rocker panels, getting the powder coating done and then installing the fender flares. That would only leave the rockers with chrome on the whole truck but I'm not totally convinced that would look good.

Which way would you guys go?

I had the exact same truck with the same trim.. I hated the chrome.... I always wanted to remove it but never did. I think that the rockers are just adhesive on some heat should remove them....I like the idea of a blacked out truck just my .02
