This is a very strange thing that my 06 5.4L seems to do. If I'm using cruse control at 80-90 km, and i want to accelerate, i get more power by holding the set button on the cruse than i do pushing the gas pedal. Using the cruise buttons, the truck smoothly accelerates without dropping gears and powerfully allows for an overtake. if i hit the gas pedal at the same speed, with cruise on OR off, the truck drops 2 gears and screams its way to a much harder earned equal speed of the cruise buttons, and just generally feels low on power.

Has anyone else noticed this? its frustrating knowing the power is there, but the truck would rather do it so frantically under the command of my foot.

This is actually pretty common. FORD programmed the PCM's in these trucks from the factory to be as efficient as possible to meet EPA standards and the like. Because of this, cruise control, which is how they get decent mileage at all, is programmed to be as efficient as possible. If you accelerate using the cruise control function, the pcm will try to get to the desired speed more quickly, so it can cruise at that speed and be efficient, the shift points for cruise control are all programmed that way. If you manually hit the gas, it will be as if the truck is questioning your desire to speed up, and then reluctantly downshift to increase speed, rather erratically. In CC mode- the shift points will get you to cruising speed more expeditiously

So your saying that the truck is just made this way? Nothing can fit it?

I am not aware of any method to change the programming of the cruise control. When in cruise control it is in a separate mode and has its own shift points etc, I am unaware if any of the tuners would be able to change it, I would guess no, but wouldnt know for sure

Techrep, I tried what I think is that procedure, turning the key on, depressing accelerator, and releasing x3. Seemed to help a lot on response and overall power. Will test it out compared to cruise next time I'm on the highway. Thanks so much.
