Best way to keep timing when changing chain

I bought new vct valves. Well crap i already pulled the chain again guess ill have to get everything back aligned. I figured the marks would always line up not thinking about how long the chain is.

If you have pulled the chains you need to try to put them back on, put the harmonic balancer tick mark back in the proper position, check the cam lobes for proper direction (there's a pic in my album) and then I would remove the chains and then reinstall them again with the links lined up again. Then once again, rotate the engine by hand to make sure that there is no valve to piston contact.
Even though the VCT solenoids are new, I would still spray them with the throttle body cleaner and then dip them in clean oil before installation, just my advice though on that.
