how does the transmission fluid look? full? red?

the reason I ask is its common for the transfer case input shaft seal to leak. Since there is no seal at the rear of the transmission, extra fluid gets pumped into the transfer case.

to test the theory, remove the transfer case FILL plug and see how much fluid comes out. if you get a lot out (its usually 3-4 qts) then the seal has failed and the t/case is over filled.

I just had the transmission flushed. They said the fluid that came out was brown, cruddy, and had metal shavings in it. Not good.

Well if the trans fluid was brown, cruddy and had metal shavings that says it all, time to rebuild.

This^^^. By the looks of your truck, I think it's worthy of a new trans. Auto trannies fail, some at lower mileage like yours, some make it well beyond the 200k mark. Throw a couple grand in it and enjoy your ride. It's cheaper than making payments on a new one!

The guy at the shop said if the transmission had never been serviced before he wouldn't be surprised about the fluid coming out that way. I'm convinced it's the transmission...but everybody keeps trying to tell me otherwise. That's why I reached out for opinions. I'll have it done this week and keep my fingers crossed.
