Default bed rail caps. what a difference!

Bought a truck on the 22nd of Dec and the bed rails were crap. I got some advice from a few guys on how to just spray the bed caps instead of buying new ones or bed cover. Cost me 8 bucks and an hr of time. The picture below is how the bed cap looked before spraying with the bed liner spray. They were that bad, that isnt scuffed or anything just plain ol sun damage i believe. I washed the caps with dawn to clean any wax/grease then dried off. Also cleaned them with a dry towel before spraying to remove any dirt. I am letting them sit over nite so i will post pics on truck as soon as they are on.

Looks MUCH better!
I really want to do this with my truck as well, but how do the caps come off?? I've never read where anyone took them off, they only taped everything off and sprayed them while they were on the truck.

If you get in the bed of the truck and look underneath the sides of the bed rails u will see they are held in by little clips. I took a pair of needle nose pliers and squeeze them in and pop the bed caps off. Be sure to not break the clips. Thing is, their are some you can't squeeze or see but once you get it started the caps pop right off. Just be patient, all i can say is once u start youll get an idea how to go about it. The one on the tailgate requires u to take out the 8 bolts on the panel to get access to the same clips holding in the ones on the sides. Get a pair of long needle nose pliers and extra set of hands for this one. It was the hardest part. Beats spraying them on the truck. If you have any q's just ask.. if i can do it, anyone can

Wow, those are pretty beat.. Looks 10X better though. I used Krylon paint about 6 months ago and a little is starting to fade in places, so I may try something different.

Did you clear coat it or just leave it as it is after painting?

If those bed rails look that bad and you just bought the truck... I would put on a good coat of wax on the body...
