Bearing noise
Had this bearing/whir noise since this summer, and I finally got around to looking into this past week.
I changed the fan clutch first, its bearing was worn, free spun, not good. Next up... water pump, pretty easy on these 5.4L engines. Guess what, noise was still there.
Last things to change on a whim, a couple of idler pulleys.
No more noise.
Bottom line, go for the easy parts first. This was a 2005 XLT 4X4 .
cheers
