Maybe you have a bad wire at the alternator connector, and PCM isn't getting the signal that the alternator is charging.. If you are getting 13.7 to 14.6 volts while the trucks running at the battery, then I'd highly suspect that connector..
If the truck is running good otherwise, and it's clear that a charge is getting to battery and the trucks not showing symptoms of running on low voltage, then it's likely that connector..
That's whats frustrating me. I do get good voltage at the battery with truck running with both of the alternators. I haven't driven it for any long periods which I'm going to do today to see what happens. To clarify you mean the connector that plugs in? I even tried to look at the fusible links which "look" ok and rechecked my grounds numerous times. The truck is idling higher than usual but am chalking that up to disc the battery more times than I can count, although I've never experienced that before after disc the battery. I'm starting to rethink my initial thought of the orig alternator being bad or not and possibly a bad wire. thanks

The high idle might be the PCM trying to raise the idle to basically receive a charge. This is why I suspect that (plug in) connector wire. You probably will need to remove the alternator to access it. If your definitely getting anything over 13.5 volts at the battery while the truck is running (charging), then the alternators probably fine.

I always get good volts at the battery with truck on. Just getting back to the truck, was in the hospital all weekend. How do I check that plug specifically?

Check the pins on the connector and look for any obvious corrosion, and loose or bent pins.
I'd also check the wire for any breaks or cuts...

Sorry to here you were in the hospital, I hope it wasn't serious...??

Had a seizure walking the dog. Thankfully my wife was with me. Felt weird, sat down and pretty much don't remember anything after that. 911, ambulance ride and the whole shabang. Felt fine soon afterwards but they keep you for observation. All tests negative so its one of those weird things. The worst part is I can't drive for a month as per Pennsylvania law. All incidents get reported to the state. So...... talk about a bad time to have a battery/alternator issue. I'm going to poke around with it some more and I have yet to drive it since the newer alt to see if it charges the battery. That elec wire looks good from what I remember but I"ll check out the pins when the snow melts. Thanks

Jeez man, hopefully it was just a fluke or just a growing pain.. Probably no need to be too alarmed, a lot of people tend to forget or don't realize that the human body changes almost completely every 7 years. Crazy stuff can happen, but usually these kinds of episodes mean that your body's trying to tell you to change something, be it diet or lifestyle. I hope you heed the call if you know what bracket your falling in...
Yeah, check the wires as described and see what happens. I'm betting you have a slight issue at the connector..

Hoping you get over whatever it is too.
I once fixed a friends car who had 3 alts installed by Pep Boys. Battery kept going dead. I found that the crimp on the large wire to the alt where it meets the connector was bad. Lots of corrosion and evidence of high temperature. When the crimped connection got loose it got hot. I bought a new lug cut the wire back and installed the new lug. No more problems.

He stated that this was all checked and good...

I'm hoping it was a one time thing too. I don't drink, smoke or do drugs. I work with my hands and work out almost every day which is why not having my license for a month is killing me. Plus the helplessness of what happened and that it totally freaked my wife out. I'm self employed too so no work, no pay. Anyway, enough about me. I will really get in there and look at that connection. Hopefully I will see something I haven't already. Thanks

Well, checked all the alternator wires again including the electrical connector going to the alt and everything visually looked ok, nothing obvious. Had my wife drive it with me running shotgun because I can't legally drive for possibly up to 6 months which totally sucks but anyway seemed to be ok and seemed to charge the battery ok when we parked it. This morning the battery was low, hovering around 12 volts so maybe I'm over thinking this and its a bad battery even though its not that old and load tests ok. I have plenty of time now to poke around more and take suggestions.
