axle seals
hey everbody! new to the site allways over on the powerstroke site but found this one so my question is i have a 2004 f150 4x4 the rear axle seals are leaking and was wondering if anybody has done them and if there is a write up on it i know i gotta pull the pan and axles but i dont want to wreck anything do it myself or let the garage do it! thanks

Easy easy easy.. First look to see if the ABS sensors are on the backing plate on your truck. If so remove the ABS sensors.
Remove the rear cover
Remove the 8mm bolt from the center pin in the diff.
Remove the center pin
Push the axles in and remove the C-clips from the inside end of the axles.
Remove the Axles
Remove old seals
Clean all mating surfaces really well
Carefully install new seals at the end of the axle tubes
Make sure to put a little gear oil on on the axle side of the seal.
Carefully re-install the axles. Do not let them ride on the seal or bang into the center chunk.
The rest of the assembly is the reverse of the disassembly.
Remove the rear cover
Remove the 8mm bolt from the center pin in the diff.
Remove the center pin
Push the axles in and remove the C-clips from the inside end of the axles.
Remove the Axles
Remove old seals
Clean all mating surfaces really well
Carefully install new seals at the end of the axle tubes
Make sure to put a little gear oil on on the axle side of the seal.
Carefully re-install the axles. Do not let them ride on the seal or bang into the center chunk.
The rest of the assembly is the reverse of the disassembly.
