Default Axle questions? Which one do I have?

I have a 2004 fx4 which has a bad right rear axle seal and probably a bearing. Based on how long the noise has been going on I think I may also need an axle shaft. But I cannot seem to find an axle shaft for this thing.

From doing some research it seems as if this thing should have the 9.75, how can I tell? Also when I look for 9.75 axle shafts on any website after putting in my year and model (though most sites have no place to enter fx4 if it matters) all they come up with a a 34 spline 5 stud shaft. And mine are definitely 6 stud???

Can anyone tell me how to figure out for sure what axle I have or know a place I can get the proper axle shaft preferably aftermarket/ cheaper than dealer???

Thanks in advance

Anyone? Every f150 I've seen today has 6 lugs? Why is everything I find 5?

If you have a fx4 then you have the 5.4, then you have the 9.75 inch axle, and its 6 lug, that's all I can tell ya, don't know much about axles

Count the bolts on the diff cover. 12 bolt is 8.8, 14 bolt is 9.75. do both seals while your in there. You will need a 3/8 or 7/16 6 point box end wrench to get the bolt out of the center pin.

Thanks, I wonder why I can't find an axe shaft for this thing a 34 spline, 9 .75", 6 lug axle shaft seems to not exist outside a dealer

Thats actually not right, just wanna clear that up for anyone who may search and find this. Mine is 12 bolt and the ID tag says 9.75 and it has the 3V 5.4 which apparently all have 9.75. Not sure if 14 bolt is the 8.8 but I know a 9.75 is 12.
