Default axle problem!

Hi everyone, this is my first post( just to let everyone know).

My brother has a 2008 f-150 xlt (5.4, 4x4). Long story short, I bent his rear axle ( 4 in the morning. Sister had to be picked up. I was half a sleep). So we need to replace the axle boviously. I was just wondering what kind of axle is offered in these trucks. Would it be the cheapest to find one at a junk yard? If you can offer any more information to my problem feel free too! lol

Thanks for any help in advanced!

Ouch... Not gonna be cheap. It would help to know what kind of axle is in it. Can you get the numbers off the ID tag on the axle?

that axle will work but it will need to be regeared, 3.55 or 3.73's are probably what you have. go to car-parts.com and see if a used axle is available, can be had for under 1000 bucks ready to bolt on.....what did you hit to bend the rear axle? also if you bent the axle, i would have the frame checked for square, a hit hard enough to need a new rearend could definitely be twisted or cracked.

well, Im used to driving a jeep wrangler. So, I turned into a parking lot with a ticket booth on the left side of the entrance and 3 cement poles on the other side. I managed to swing to sharp to the right. I scraped and dented the beginning of the bed up to the wheel well. At this point the cement pole was so far in that when it got to the tire it jammed right into it.

I will check the axle tomorrow and see if I can find anything.

Is is possible it has just moved the axle such that it dog tracks? does Ford use a locating pin to keep the axle perp to the truck?

you could have sheared the pin off....i would drop the rear axle and inspect it, something is probably broke or bent, unless you hit it with some speed, it's highly unlikely that the rearend is bent..for what it's worth---i rolled at truck at 55 with wide rims and i didn't bend a rear end.

Yeah, honestly when my brother came up to me and said the axle was bent I just kept saying "are you sure? Its not just moved back a little?". As far as I remember I couldnt have been going over 10mph.

I am going to try and look at his truck sometime, but he is never home. As soon as I have some updates I will come back and beg for everyones knowledge lol.
