The highway MPG ended up being 15.5 MPG averaging 80-85 MPH through the Mountains going to WV...

My dad has a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland with a 4.7L HO V8 (280HP, 330lb/ft) and AWD (with front, rear, and center locking differentials), and he gets 29MPG on the highway going 55MPH.

It has a 5speed automatic transmission.

AWD isnt that bad for mileage as long as you drive like a grandma, and have a decent transmission...

My '00 Durango R/T (5.9L) has a similar setup. Full-time AWD with selectable 4hi and 4low. Averages about 11mpg in AWD mode.
