From what I have read the first 2 years they ran the 3 v heads they machined the holes where the electrode shield sits too small. Over time there is buildup in that small space and it causes the plug to break right under the threads, which is the weakest point on the plug.

i was told to use an impact to remove them and the vibration will help break the carbon free from the electrode.... any truth to this?

That is the complete opposite of what ford says to do. The TSB includes liberal use of penetrating lube and careful hand removal.

I woud definitely not use an impact. That just sounds like a dumb idea waiting to happen. I had to postpone it again probably wont happen till the first week of March since my mom is flying in this week. I only got a few weeks left before I head back to iraq so I need to get it done.

Just do it, it will take about an hour once you start. It took me about 10 mins to get the first plug that broke off out. The other 2 that broke off took me a total of 5 minutes to get out. It is not a big deal at all if they break off clean as long as it isn't the passenger rear 2 plugs.
