Anyone try Ford Racing valve covers?
2004 F-150 5.4 3v 137,000 miles 4wd
I'm changing my cam phasers soon. My existing valve covers are pitted and dingy. I don't really care that much, but isn't the PCV pressed into the valve covers too?
I was wandering around the fordracing site and saw these valve covers that fit 2005-2010 3 valve 4.6/5.4 engines. Mines actually a 2004, but it is the next gen body style with the 3v engine, so surely it fits mine too.
Has anyone tried these?

I just got a new motor for my truck and put the black ones on it. They are too much work to clean out completely so I just decided to replace them. They bolt directly up, no problems.

I read back through your new engine thread. Looks like I'm just behind you with my 2004. The phasers are really loud at 137k miles. Hopefully, I catch it before it craps out like yours did. I'm not ready for $5k in new engine.
That said, the phasers aren't cheap.
$165 per side for the phasers
$50 for the valve cover gaskets
$150 for the chain holder tool
So that's $550. Then there's the (not needed, technically) $275 for the new valve covers. Plus the $150 for the DIY plugs and Lisle tool that I just did.
That's $975 - or 20% of a new engine - in one month for a fix that may not even work and if it does I still have an engine w/137k miles.
You didn't do too bad with a new engine.
After that, I have to spend $1500 for my rear diff, that has been howling for a year.
I'm not complaining... it's a project car that I only drive 4k per year.
I enjoy tinkering with it. I'm sick in the head.
Eventually, when I have everything done, I just may look in to that glass hood!

I guess I could have them cleaned and powder coated.
My goal, though, is to have the phasers replaced in one weekend. If I took them off, I'd have to take them somewhere which would take a while.
Not a bad idea, though. I'll look into it.

there is NO way you are getting existing non-virgin aluminum PC'd for less than $269. The custom aluminum valvecovers on my car, plenum, timing cover are all PC'd. Its close to $700-$800 in work. The existing valvecovers have been exposed for many years. In order to coat them, they have to be prebaked. What that means is that the oils and impurities have to gas out before coating, otherwise the part has to be stripped and recoated.
