I have the flowmasters 40s on my 05 fx4 5.4l and want to make them louder but still be legal, any ideers?

If you want it louder in the cab, cut off the tailpipe so the exhaust exits under the truck. In Missouri, I think the requirement is only that the exhaust exits behind the cab.

Install a cut-out (maybe not so legal, depending on the usage).

Knock out the guts of the cat (not legal, but up to your conscience and any required emissions testing).

Remove the muffler and run with either the cat only or some other muffler of choice (again, maybe not so legal or desirable).

Also try Air intake mods. Opening up air flow into your engine can change the sound of your exhaust greatly.

headers will change the sound greatly. Long tubes sound better but the shortys will help out with torque
