Default Any paint experts out there?

So I recently brought my 2008 F-150 limited edition in to a couple body shops to get bumper repainted as well as a couple touch ups on the rear bumper, and was quoted $2000 and $2200!!! Thats even with me pulling the bumpers off for them! My friend has a quality sprayer and that he uses for artwork and said he would do it for free, all I have to do is supply the paint, which brings me to my question(s). It sounds like PV is the the paint code for the Sand Metallic White color, however the paint job is a tri-coat, and after some research I found that basically means there's a tinted mid coat between the base coat and the clear coat. Does anyone know what exactly this mid-coat would be? Also any recommendations on what to order for the clear coat?

Any quality auto body supply that mixes paint will be able to get the correct color in a 2 stage, meaning base coat, then clear. Autumn Red Metallic from Ford is the same way it has a Base, Tint, then clear. Here is a pic for reference to how well it matched.

Go to some other shops first, I cant imagine it would be more than $400 or $500 to paint bumpers

Yeah the prices are so high because you have the Limited truck. I dont doubt because of the metallic middle coat thats why the prices are jacked up. I agree with the other guys though and you can definitely find it cheaper or there is another way to do it other than the 3 stage route. That is obvious the right/best way but you can get a similar quality without doing it that way.

Your looking close to $400-$500 in materials alone. I called a friend of mine who just painted a wrecked Limited recently. To paint the bumpers only is going to require around a QT of paint, QT of clear, plus whatever else is needed.

That's crazy! I got both of my bumpers re painted about a month ago and the total was about $450 out the door. That was with me taking the bumpers off.

Yeah, one of the things that make a Limited unique; special paint.

Still though, 2 grand for the bumpers? That seems a bit ridiculous even for "special" paint.
