Default Annoying whine

I have searched the forum and I have not found an answer to my problem. I have a whining noise that sounds like it is comng from the front right area of the engine compartment. It goes up or down with engine rpm. It does not matter if it is could outside or not. I'm thinking it is the power steering pump but the whine does not change if I move the wheel back and forth...only if the rpms go up. Any thoughts? Thanks.

take the drive belt off and start the engine if the noise is gone then look for your component that is making the noise. that is the best way to id an area...

Thanks for the great idea about removing the belt. So simple but I never thought of it. I'll give that a try as soon as I get some time.
