Probably the most important thing is regular cleaning and oiling of the filter. When I removed the CAI I had to also remove a throttle body spacer. Keep in mind that I am not a mechanic but I was amazed at how much crud was built up In the TB. This relates directly back to proper filter care.

oiled filter will cause that... why induce oil into your air intake system...will mess up you MAF and TB... need a properly maintained dry filter ...

No argument there however, many "high performance" air filters require that it be treated regularly with an oil based filter treatment. Fail to clean and treat the filter and dirt gets by it into the engine. This is one of the reasons I went back to a stock intake. I like things simple.
