Air Conditioning

Air Conditioning
My air blows pretty good driving but at idle it goes just about warm like a fan is circulating the air. I have recharged it and it still seems to do it. Any ideas?

Mine has completely gone out too.
I'm looking at $430 for all new parts including hoses, compressor, condenser, evaporator, office tube, manifold, accumulator, and all new o-rings. The whole system is 10 years old, which is not bad, except it's all original and has 290k miles of use in south Texas, so it been running constantly for years. The compressor seems to have blown up on the inside as I can barely barely turn the clutch with my hand and the clutch disc is damaged from wear.
I'm ordering the parts today. I just have to have the system drained at an ac shop first before I put the new parts on.
I've done this same thing to two previous trucks I've owned and I've been very pleased in the end. Worth the cost for me to replace everything because I won't have brand new parts mixed with old ones that could fail soon after I'm done.

I have an '08 with 65k miles and I have pretty much the same experience. Blows pretty warm until I start moving down the road. I figured this was normal for the truck. If I take it to the dealer can they improve the performance?

Matt you said you recharged it? How did you do that? Did you have a professional do it or did you just dump one of those cans from autozone in there?
The ac system needs to be just right. You have to know what you are doing over filling it or not putting the proper oil and freon in there can cause much more trouble them good.
So if you just dumped a can in there then the first thing I would do is to to a good shop and get your ac system checked out. Tell them what you did. I would do this before something else goes wrong before its too late.
Also for your initial problem that could be low freon, it could be a clogged condenser or evaporator, low or high freon, compressor not kicking in.
I have done this mod on my last 2 trucks. Made a difference for sure!

Especially when you look at where your ac line is. Going to the evaporator inside your truck. This is the line carrying the cooled High pressure freon. This line is right above/beside the exhaust manifold. I wrapped it with some reflective AL tape. Yes it helped quite a bit! But you must make sure your AC is running correctly first. If its not then its like lipstick on a pig kinda thing
