Default Aftermarket wheel question

Alright fellas, I have a 2004 SCREW Lariat Rwd with a 2" Bilstein level. I recently bought a set of 20" aftermarket wheels with a Zero Offset and 285/65/20 tire size from a person to person purchase. I've read a ton on here, but apparently not enough as the wheels rubbed and I had to take them off. I was under the impression that with a level I could fit up to a 35" tire and these are actually 34 and change, so I figured I was good for now. What am I missing and don't tell me to refer to a sticky or something, please. Is it possible that my springs have sagged or something similar? Suggestions are welcome as this is like a Christmas present that I can't open, haha.
If I had to get a different tire what's the maximum size I could get? Assuming the above has no solution?

If you were a 4WD.. must of mis-read and the wheels did not rub the tires did.. drop a size and you should be fine.. where did it rub ?

I assume on the inner fender or valance. His 285/65/20 is the same width as my 285/50/20 (11.2") and I only rub a little on the sway bar at full lock. His tire is 3.5" taller though.

Yeah guys, sorry I could have said where it rubbed...its rubbing the factory fender flare first and then the inner well when turning further. I had only planned on running this size for a short while until I got 33" which seem to be an easier upkeep/replacement as far as the wallet goes, and had tire shop recommending a size just beyond the factory size, claiming "it will look better than what's on there."
I'm sorry, but that's kind of a terrible goal to simply look better than factory. Any size recommendations would be beneficial also as I may order some.

Im running into a similar situation right now and i just put on 2.5" leveling kit on my 2wd. I am going to try and shave down that factory fender flare first b/c thats the real issue. The inner well I could really care less as I dont do any offroading for the most part. I am running a -12 offset, cant imagine if I wouldve gone less how much more I would be rubbing.

I think alot of people factory in the biggest tire size for a 2wd without the fender flares and thats where they have no issues.
