Default Aftermarket Tach question

Just bought a Sunpro tach for my 2005 STX (4.6) and can't seem to find anyone who knows where the proper connection is for the signal to activate the tach... Everything else is easy, light, hot wire and ground. Anyone out there know where the "green wire" goes???

Thanks... Appriciate any advice!

Thanks.... The directions with the tach indicate that an adapter is not necessary for DIS ignitions, but do not indicate where in the vast complex of wires the connection should be made. They simply say to look at the information from Ford. It's only one wire... With a older single coil ignition, it's simple.... I'm stumped!

Waiting for answers from both Sunpro and Autometer... For DIS and COP systems, it's complicated to capture a dedicated tach signal from the computer. Multiple signals are transmitted on a single wire these days.

In many ways, this old fart would like to return to the 60's when it comes to my vehicles! I'm tired of trying to deal with computer driven systems!

Received this response from Auto Meter earlier this morning. Will wait to see what, if anything, I receive from Sunpro, then move forward. The Auto Meter web site has a detailed statement regarding both DIS and COP systems. It's not an easy work around. I would think that there would be a valid tach signal available in a wire at the plugs for the dash unit, as all were wired for factory tach...

Hello.

Please see below for what you will have to do to get a useable tachometer signal.

You will need a model number 9117 Auto Meter tachometer adapter. Under the hood, located on the passenger side firewall, just in front of the computer (PCM), there will be a 12 pin wire harness connector. Locate the red wire with a light green stripe. Cut this wire in half and wire the 9117 tachometer adapter between the two cut halves. Attach the solid red of the adapter to the cut half that still has power. Then attach the red/green of the adapter to the other cut half of the red wire with a light green stripe. The gray adapter wire will provide you with a useable tachometer signal.

Thank you.
