Spend the money for the JBL components up front and put a set of $40-50 coax in the rear. Turn the fader to 2/3 favoring the front and enjoy life.
Factory 'audiophile' fronts are a complete joke.

While researching replacement speakers for my 2007 F150 Lariat, I came across this thread recommending the JBL GTO8608C speakers. Ordered 4 from Amazon.
During my research, I found strong reviews for the GTO8608C, but it does look like JBL has completely pulled out of the component car audio speaker market. They don't list GTO8608C as a current item on their website and they're not available over on Crutchfield at present. Several vendors are selling them on Amazon and eBay in new condition, but the door may be closing on this model.
If some future researcher comes across this thread, you might not be able to find these JBLs for sale anywhere.

Man, I opted for the Rockford Fosgate Punch P1683s -- best move ever, even on the stock headunit. There is a tiny amount of modification to make them fit the front speaker wells on the 2007 F150 (cutting off two tabs on each speaker), but otherwise they're perfect. Can't beat it for $100 for all four ($50 a pair on amazon, prime).
They sound clear as a bell and pack a, get ready for the pun, punch. No more muddy highs and blown lows. I even had to adjust the treble down because the highs are so damn bright on them.
Next step is to add an amped headunit and see how much better they sound.
