Default Add-A-Leafs Yes or No???

I'm looking for some advice on rear add-a-leafs since the front of my truck is now slightly higher than the back after installing a front leveling kit. I would really appreciate seeing some pics of trucks that already have an add-a-leaf installed. All the sites that I've found say that the average increased height would be 2". I just want to make sure that is true.

I am also curious about which brand is better. Any help would be great. Thanks.

yes, that is true.

i have a brand new, unused Procomp kit right now that I decided not to use. My truck is actually perfectly level, and I don't want the rake. Let me know if you're interested.

You will get a variety of opinions from each person you ask about this subject. I personally think that there is nothing wrong with installing an AAL set but others say to go with a more traditional lift system. AAL's would be fine if you plan on towing something heavy since it will firm up the rear of your truck. If you do not plan on towing anything much at all (like myself), I would consider just installing a set of 1" rear blocks that go between the leaf springs and the axle. They are alot easier to install and they are more easily removed if you do not like the outcome look. NTM- they are only around $50 or less depending on where you go.

I recomend fatbobsgarage.com but I'm sure others will offer up other options.

I did the same thing with my truck, added a leveling kit and than a leaf. The leaf did raise the rear about 2 to 3 inches, basically it gives you a little bit a rake again. I did this because I tow a boat and with just the kit it did sag abit. I am not sure how to upload pictures to the site but if you want pm me with you email and i will send you some.

the thing i really dislike about add-a-leafs is there is no set rate of lift, hence why i like the block better. if my truck needs 1" in the rear, i know that putting in an inch taller block i got what i want, with the add a leaf, sometimes you get alot more than you expect, i have put in add-a-leafs in previous trucks and every damn time it gave me too much lift, i would stick with the blocks, way easier install and you know what you are gonna end up with.

I appreciate the info.

I actually do pull some trailers every now and then. That is why the rear "sags" lower than the front. It sat level after I had the leveling kit installed, but I pulled a trailer with a very heavy load that I shouldn't have. I think that my springs might be a little fatigued because of that, so I wouldn't mind the extra towing strength. I just don't want the back raised any higher than 2".

I am going to do something to raise the back; that I know. I am leaning to getting the AAL, but am not 100% sure just yet. I will let you guys know what I decide and will take some pics.

Thanks again for the help.

If you pull often get the AALs. I have 2" AALs on my truck and love it for hauling. I can put a max load on my truck and I sit level and the truck has a good attitude.

If you don't pull often don't put the AAL on. When I'm not towing it rides pretty rough, or atleast people complain about the ride all the time... I don't notice it myself.....

Plus with a 3" front and 2" AAL I sit about 1" high in the rear static...

Default Aal

My truck had a 6” lift and the camper shell. The camper shell lowered my truck in the rear even more than the lift had raised the front. The camper shell offset the stiffness of the AAL.

I put the AAL on my truck to level it after the 6" lift. I like mine so far. But I have the snug top on my truck. The camper shell adds more weight so my AAL seems nice to me. I tow a 19’ travel trailer and a utility trailer often. I do find the AAL an improvement on my truck.

Atom is right though… is a lot harder to remove the AAL once installed than it is to adjust the rear blocks.

This is my personal opinion.

Here is a pic of the AAL on my truck. MY 4x4 truck came stock with 2" blocks
I took out the 2" block

To level it I chose to put in a 5" block plus
the AAL (which gave approx 2" more.)

I know, your not lifting your truck 6"
so this may not help!

In the picture above, is the lowest leaf the added leaf or is that what a standard leaf spring set up looks like? I have the same leaf set up, minus the lift block, and was wonder if it is stock or heavier duty.
