ABS light on and 4x4 HI light flashes????
Hi everyone, I have a 08 AWD with 18k miles. For the last 3 weeks my abs light has been coming on and the 4x4 HI light flashes every 10-30 seconds, lasting for 2 seconds or up 10 seconds at a time. When I turn the truck off then back on the light goes out and doesn't come back on for a day or two (depending on how much driving I do). Before the lights come on I can feel a grinding sensation in the gas pedal when I'm accelerating. I can also hear the noise in the engine or the drivetrain (it feels like its coming from the front differential but the noise is coming from the engine or it sounds like it is). I've taken it to the dealer twice (once when the lights were off and once when they were on but they have not been able to find the problem because they say it’s not happening for them). Has anyone else experienced the same thing or heard of this problem? Any info would be great. Thank you!

Find another dealer; pronto. If I hear grinding noises along with a dash light (or lights) coming on, and a dealer tells me they can find nothing, I high tail it to another dealer. Ask the next dealer if you can leave it with them so they can try to replicate the problem when it's cold/ when it's warm. Give this new dealer as much information as possible (I.E. what road conditions cause it to happen; it happens only when cold, or only when it's warmed up, or only under a certain RPM range, or only when I'm driving at a certain speed, etc).
Grinding noises are not good; you know this. Get it to another dealer.

I have an 04 ext cab with the 5.4, my 4x4 was flashing, and had (what felt like) my rear end lock up a few times..... finally coming home one day my tranny locked up right in the middle of the road, then my OD light was flashing and the message that read on the screen was "TRANS FAULT". I agree with the other guy, I would head elsewhere. Luckily mine was covered under warranty, but still becareful. Good Luck
