Default 8.8 to 9.75 axle change

Hi,

On my 2005 4.6 4x2 , I want to change my rear axle from an 8.8, which is on it last legs, to a 9.75. Same gear ratio 3.55.

Will I need to change anything else? will it be an un bolt re bolt operation?

Thanks

James

Technically you are not supposed to reuse the u-bolts but everything else should be fine as long as the new rear end has a speed sensor in it like yours should. There should be a plug on the pumpkin for it

Unbolt 8.8 and bolt in 9.75 as long as it's from a 04+

Thanks

I don't need to shorten the drive shaft? I was told the diff housing is a little bigger and I will need a smaller drive shaft?

You will also need to tell the ECM what your new reared gears are.

I am not certain but there is a good chance the yokes are different. Typically a stronger diff means a more stout yoke as well.

The easiest way around this is to grad the driveshaft when you get the used diff.

Again not certain but look into it.
