5.4L V8 swap or gear swap
I currently drive an 04 f150 that has the 4.6L v8, extended cab with 4wd. I want to upgrade to bigger tires, nothing drastic from 255/70/17 to 285/70/17. I know some power will be taken away due to the bigger tires size. However i am currently running 3.55 rear end ratio. I was wondering what would be a most cost effective move to upgrade to a 5.4 or swap the gear ratio to 4.10, i know i have to replace both the front and rear differentials. I dont tow much weight and it does have good pulling power for the smaller motor.

The engine swap vs gearing comes down to cost... Will it cost you more in money, time, money, stress and money putting in the 5.4 vs re-gearing... I would imagine that going to the 33" will not take away a whole lot but it probably would put some pep in your step to go to 3.73's...
If it was my choice between the 2, gears...

Seriously? I have never heard of swapping out to a bigger motors just to run slightly larger tires. But if you just want a 5.4 I would suggest selling what you have and getting a new truck with the 5.4. I think that would be more cost effective and less time consuming than the upgrade. The gear swap is a lot more logical however. Just my .02!
