I promptly switched back to 5W20 and it quitted right down.
what about switching to a 0W-20?

Now combine that with the known issue of weak oil pumps and low oil pressure and you have oil that doesn't circulate as it should, in there a bit to long and you have what you see here.
If you were using a 5W-20 synthetic blend tho there would be no additive depletion. I would not suggest to go 6-7k intervals on mineral oil.

Sounds like I may try the full synthetic 5W20 next oil change. My engine is already very quiet for 145K. We shall see.

I use 10 30 and have for 65 grand. Synthetic Mobil one change every 5 grand with wix filter it has 223000 on the engine and burns about 1/2 a qt in that 5 grand change period. You have to be diligent with the changes.

Just changed the oil and put in Mobile 1 5w20 instead of 5w30 like my last two changes. On initial startup there was a lot of cam/chain noise coming from the passenger side. Once the engine warmed up it disappeared. It seems to run a bit smoother and quiter. Not sure if that is just from fresh oil or going to 5w20. I did noticed the cam/chain noise that I hear when the engine is under load or over 2k rpm's has gotten much quieter. All in all I am happy with the change and will most likely stick to the 5w20. LaMartian, can you change my vote from 5w30 to 5w20 please?

Sounded like mine....chains were stretched....glad I replaced em...super quiet now. I run 5w20....while I didn't pull the heads it was super clean under valve covers...no gunk or build up was seen.

Well my dreams have been crushed with the full synthetic. After two trips pulling our 6k TT oil was seeping out of my brand new oem valve covers. It only does it when I was really working the engine. Also after I got to the campground the engine sounded loud. No ticking or anything but not as smooth if I'm not pushing it. After returning home I changed the oil back to synthetic blend MC but this time I decided to go with 5w30. We camped over the 4th about an hour drive from home. First thing I did was peak in the wheel wells. Dry as a bone! Also the engine sounds smoother when worked.

Idk maybe I needed so go up in weight with full synthetic. Kinda bummed I only had 1k on that oil. $$$ out the window...

If you were "seeping" oil out of your valve covers AND it stopped when you went to a heavier oil, it makes me think your rings are shot.

Yeah but I had no seeping with the MC 5w20 either. Also with my experience an engine with bad rings uses oil and blows blue smoke. This truck does neither. In fact it doesn't use a drop of oil even when pulling. It runs like a beast.

My last truck was a 01 screw with the 4.6. Every time it sat for any length of time it puffed a small cloud of blue smoke on start up and not to mention it used about 2 quarts of oil between 3k mile changes.
