D,
I sent you a PM about the tool. Thanks but I purchased an extractor from NAPA and while it's not the Lisle brand, it is for the 3 valve, 5.4 Triton motor. Hopefully I will not need the tool and I can either return it or just add another freaky tool to my tool chest. I haven't changed the plugs just yet. I'm doing what others here have done before trying to remove the plugs. I'm running Seafoam for a couple of tanks of gas and then give it a try.
However, thank you very much for the offer.

Guys, checking in with the Lisle tool, send me a PM and I will move it on to the next weekend warrior. I got lucky and didn't need it but it was good to have if things went south. For the record here's how I did it. I ran two bottles of Techron fuel system cleaner through it and then with the engine warm removed the plugs with an air rachet. I didn't have the right size sockets to run the impact wrench though. I think the key to my success was the Techron. I didn't remove anything and although it was tight getting the back ones out, it's not impossible. Truck has 82k miles on it. One of the plugs was missing the top part of the electrode so I'm hoping that is in the oil pan or the exhaust! I used the champion plugs and everything is running very nicely now. It's a relief to have the job done. Thanks to everyone who posted tips in this thread, that really helped. d

Plug change coming up
Truck has 78k on it and I had to limp it home with a miss. Had a shop fix the 1 bad plug, which it did break off. And it was stuck good. Took 3 days soaking to get it out. Haven't touched the rest as I wanted to research this again. I'm not paying someone to do what I am capable of doing, even if its something like this. Priced out the tool at NAPA, not a Lisle, but same design. What a f!@#d design by FOMOCO! But, what do yah do! Oh yah, I drove a Pinto back in the day and lived, so I think we can make this work!

Just my .02 cents but take the NAPA tool back. It is a tap design and all the broken ceramic MUST be gone before you can use the tap. The NAPA tool doesn't mention that until you open the package and read the instructions. BTDT.
I ended up finding the Lisle tool at a local O'Reily's to get the job done.

Thanks JasonWilliams66, I'll check out O'Riellys down the street. They're so new I forget about them. Found the Lisle tool on Amazon too, just want to return it if I don't use it. D

Thinking about changing the plugs
I am at 74k miles on an '08 5.4. I work at a Ford dealership and am not opposed to putting Motorcraft plugs back in but was wondering if anybody has found one piece plugs that work or another brand that will last another 100K?
Thanks!
Thanks!

When you remove your plugs you'll find there isn't much left at 74k. The motorcrafts I'm my edge which calls for replacement at 90k could have easily made it to 100k. The motorcrafts on my 5.4 should have probably been replaced at 60k not the 100k ford recommends.

Ford now recommends 60K change intervals.
