Rear Rotor removal

Default Rear Rotor removal

Yesterday I was trying to remove my rear rotors to replace them and had no luck getting them off. The parking brake was off. I tried using a 3 pound rubber mallet and nothing. Tried heating it with a torch a little then hitting it and nothing. Any ideas? I'm not ready to give up and take it to a mechanic quite yet. Thanks in advance for any help!

The parking brake shoes are just caught up on the ridge inside the rotor. Just need to work your way around the wheel flange between the studs with a steel hammer but not too hard and then try sticking a small pry bar or screw driver in the vent slots 180* from each other using both hands to work it back and forth towards you.

If its not froze up, you can back off the parking brake adjuster.

There's a rubber boot on the back side. Remove that, and then there is a little gear looking thing in there that you spin to tighten/loosen the E-brake

Had the same problem with mine...I sprayed em down real good with stuff called Freeze Off...couple whacks with a hammer and they popped right off.

Just did mine Saturday, and one of them was like that. I had to back off the parking brake through the hole in the back plate as mentioned above.

Yeah man, a rubber mallet wouldn't work. You need a steel hammer. Put the lug nuts back on that way you don't ruin the threads. Put some WD, PB, or brake clean around the inner and outer edge of the rotor. Then hit it a couple of times. It will pop right off

You need to commit to pulling that rotor off. Don't mess around with a rubber mallet. You need the shock that comes with hitting it with a steel hammer. You will damage it, but that is what's needed sometimes. I have had to pour boiling hot water or torch the rotor before and beat the hell out of them. Sometimes they almost weld themselves together where the metal of the rotor meets the lug nut spindle thing.

Definitely back off the e brake pads before trying to beat the snot out of it. That's what mine needed. I thought it was fused on but it was the pads preventing it from moving cause they wear a lip on the inside of the rotor.
