Transmission: Drive is like neutral unless push o/d lockout.
04 f150xlt 2wd 4.6 auto
Put it in drive and it wont take off. Just revs. No slipping or clanking. There was no problems before. It will work about 1/4 the time in drive then its like neutral again.
Push the o/d lockout and it works fine minus 4th gear. Also works fine if put into 2nd or 1st.
This a solenoid or switch or?

fyi: I had the intake manifold gasket, coils, plugs and coil pack replaced by the dealer about 800 miles ago. Pulled a 5000lb RV about 100 miles under 60mph afterward with no problem either(with o/d locked out). This tranny problem started a few days following. Have drove the truck maybe 30 miles since.
Its going to the dealer again for the tranny but 3 weeks wait to get in...

Why does it need to go to the Dealer for tranny service ?? there's plenty of good tranny shops out there.

I just recently had the same problem start occuring with my 04 f150. It's a pretty common problem actually. There is a little servo "clip" in there that gets sheared pretty often in our trucks. Makes it so it doesn't want to shift into overdrive and instead goes into neutral. I'm taking mine to the shop today for it. I wouldn't advise waiting any longer than absolutely necessary. Every day you drive it there is potentially a little piece floating around in there just waiting to cause a huge mess inside that transmission. It doesn't take much. Here is my post on the matter. https://www.f150forum.com/f4/2004-f1...nto-od-312298/
