Ford and only Ford. Honestly, I would do something like this http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/product/LPP823113 with a phaser lockout kit.

Default Oem timing parts

Oem select ebay is one source. Most of the timing kit $ 798 . Lash adjusters and rollers $265 . metal seal less ratcheting tensioners around $100-- really recommend using these tensioners . . Amazon oil pump melling 360 around $100. '
Fairway ford online is another bulk supplier .
The lockouts don't fix anything and they cost $700 and its one time tune to fool your pcm . Put your money on a real fix . If you lose your PCM its another $700.
As you can see the parts aren't cheap but it should last another 150k if done right .
In my opinion if you get 300k out of an engine you are doing okay .

I'm looking at a 2007-2010 5.4 what are the red flags or things to look for? Is the 4.6 2v or 3v more ideal?

I know it's been a while since you asked but I wish I'd read the thread about the cam phasers when I was looking at buying my truck: https://www.f150forum.com/f4/final-r...-sound-141266/
