"Turn the key to the on position but DON'T start the engine. Now press the gas peddle to the floor SLOWLY and let it come up/back as fast as you can, turn key to the off position. Now do this two more times. Now start the engine and go for a test drive"

worth a try...

Here is mine. When I'm driving if I keep the rpm around 1000 the truck will feel like it is skipping. I think may be a plug issue. Next occasionally when I go to start it, it will turn over but wont start. As strange as it sounds if I put the pedal all the way to the floor and let it come up. It will then start.

I'd love to hear what anybody finds out on this issue. I have a 2005 5.4k 160k miles and it seems extremely gutless. I had a 1999 5.4l with 260k miles that was WAY more peppy than this truck. I just replaced all 8 plugs with Motorcrafts, didn't seem to change anything. I am wondering if my truck needs the cam phaser job done though.

This resets your computer controlled throttle body which learns how you drive and only opens so far after a while. Did it to my truck, woke it right up! But you also may have a "cop" or coil that is on its way out, only noticed at low rpm's and under load.

So I have a 2004 F-150 that just passed 80,000 miles and a month ago it started making a very loud noise on startup, but only cold startup, meaning if I haven't used the truck in about three hours. Now I went on youtube to research and found a video of a truck making the exact same noise! Here is the link: 04 f150 cold start knocking noise - YouTube
Can anyone verify what this is??? Some poeple are saying cam phasers and some are saying I'll need a brand new engine! Thanks everyone
sorry for such a late response but did you check your motor mounts? Mine made a similar sound at that rpm and one was a little loose.

Default 04-08 problems

Hi everyone, I'm looking at buying an 04-08 f150 with the 5.4. Can anyone tell me what the chances of me getting a bad engine are? Is every engine affected by the cam phasers/tensioners/injectors? I'd like to know the chances of having to spend thousands in repairs before I sink $15k into a truck.
Thanks!

Default Sqeal sound from the engine

I have one for yahs, if anyone has seen this one. The beast is a 05 F150, 5.4 4x4 w/73k miles. Been a great truck, but I'm losing respect for it slowly as things start to show up. I have checked and as of now replaced all idlers and tension roller along with a new serp belt. No help. The alt bearings are dry, but not squeaky, yet. The squeal almost sounds more like a purring sound, almost like letting the air out of a balloon being pinched off. I've been able to trace with a stethoscope to the intake manifold, drivers side. Used starting fluid to locate a leak, found zero!! Now, before anyone says its the belt, I'm positive its not. I traced it with the belt off and a cold motor. It changes in intensity, but not with rpms, or vehicle speed. I always have the weird crap happen to my vehicles!! So if anyone has any clues let us all know! Thanks D
