Default 5.4 liter capacities

I bought a used 2008 2WD SCREW Lariat (93k) from our son knowing there were things it needed. I took it to my mechanic (who we've used for 20 years) and asked for coolant system and transmission flush/fill and fuel filter replaced.

He flushed the cooling system until it ran clear, replaced the thermostat, and cleaned the reservoir which was so cloudy the level couldn't be seen. It only took 3 gallons to refill. The owners manual says 5 gallons. I'm puzzled.

He dropped the transmission pan and changed the filter. Refill only took 6 quarts. This makes some sense as internals were still full, but 6 out of specified 14?.

I wanted the plugs changed, but he tried and they didn't break loose. He said he's tried further before and had the truck towed because of it ... 2 days soaking didn't help. Is this a dealer job; that was his recommendation.

He found a few more little things and took care of them; in his opinion, if I plan to keep it a while, I should get the plugs changed and he'd feel pretty good I had a while with minimal problems.

Both of those numbers sound right. The engine block still had some coolant in it and the trans that sounds just right for a spill and fill

As for the plugs it's not necessarily a dealer job you just need to ask a shop if they have the lisile tool for the 3V ford triton

Honestly if you have the lisle tool it's not a scary job at all. I've done it twice now on mine. If you break one the lisle tool extracts it easy. It's like $60

Depending on your engine's production date, you may not need the lisle tool to change spark plugs.

This. Check the sticker date on your valve cover. Capacities are right for the services performed

Like nut kase said .. Check the engine build date on your valve cover if it is after 10/9/07 the plugs will come right out. You can also tell by the color of the COP boot.. Black or brown.. Brown being the boots for the redesigned heads ..

08/09/07, black coils, cannot really see boots; my mechanic replaced one coil to eliminate miss, it is more a dark gray.

So it is a shop with a Lisle 65600 I must find ...

Thanks!

It's not a hard job, just need some time set aside, patience and your choice of anger reducing beverage. Unfortunately, a shop/dealer is more than likely going to rape your wallet if plugs start breaking.

Why doesn't your mechanic have this tool? Is he a fluid only mechanic?

I'm not a mechanic and like many others on here have changed our own plugs (I had 4 break) and use this tool with great success.

If this dude you have used for 20 years can't change those plugs for you.. It's time to find somebody else.
