I've been looking for a new F150 for a while now, but haven't been able to do anything til I get my wifes Trailblazer sold. We traded my Dodge pickup for a brand new Escape for her. Anyway since I have searched literally every night for F150s, out of pure boredom I started looking at F250's, when it hit me that the 5.4 is in the V-8 gasoline 250s in the 04-08 year range I've been looking. So do they both get about the same gas mileage or does the bigger F250 drag it down way more than an F150?

If you get a F250, go diesel... there is a reason why you get a F250, and the gas engines just won't be able to do nearly as well, and yes, lower gas mileage, my buddy has one and he was getting roughly 13mpg

Maybe I'll just stick with the F-150 search. BTW anyone looking for an 04 Trailblazer 4x4 in the Wichita, KS area?

I've never understood this logic, especially for the F250. By the time you get into trailer weights that can't safely be towed by the gasser, your pin weight is probably pushing the payload limits of an F250. Sure, if you're towing 8k+ every day, the diesel is going to do a much better job and get better gas mileage doing it, but it's also more expensive up front and fuel/maintenance costs are higher.

I can think of plenty of reasons why the extra payload of an F250 would be nice without necessarily needing the towing capacity of the diesel. Slide in campers (esp if you also want to pull a trailer), light weight 5th wheels, hauling atvs/motorcycles in the bed and still pulling a camper, etc.

The F250 went 3v in 2005. Also, the F250 has a 5 speed automatic where the F150 only has a 4 speed. The 6.8L V10 went 3v in 2005 too.

Hate to say it but my 150 averages 12-14 mpg due to the toolbox I carry .... I had a 250 with a 5.4 and the same toolbox and got the same mileage as I do now... I would rather have a little more payload cap... IMO it would be beneficial to still search in both models of truck

I have a '03 F250. It has the 5.4. It also has a 5 spd with a creeper gear. Not a common option from what I've been told. The thing tows beautiful. I pull a loaded 6x10 enclosed trailer and you never know it's back there.

With a few mods, It's not crazy to get 20+ mpg in a diesel. Steer clear of the 6.0 unless you get good aftermarket head studs and egr delete for a 5.4 stick with a 150.
