Default Same problem

I also need to replace passenger side manifold on my 07 FX4 with 38K on it. Anyone have a part number for the manifold from Ford? Can only find drivers side on line. Either discontinued or call your dealer. Local dealer quoted $233 for manifold, gaskets and studs. He didn't know if studs were stainless or not. Any info would be appreciated. Only want to do this once.

Thanks, Maurice

RockAuto has them, I bought mine at Autozone. Go to Ebay and buy the stainless steel set of studs, they are like $10 per side. Be prepared for a battle as these things are a pain to get to and the studs could break in the head requiring you to drill and ez out or weld a nut on it to get the broke stud out. I bit the bullet and paid to have mine done, got a great price at about $550 or so to change out the passenger side. Took the shop 2 days and they only broke 1 stud and the top starter bolt.
If you do it yourself, take out the wheel well liner, remove the starter, move the AC compressor out of the way, disconnect the passenger side motor mount and raise the engine an inch or two to help get some room. You may have to remove the air filter assembly to help get a little room when raising the engine. Also, a few days prior to doing the work, start soaking the studs with pb blaster or some other type of penetrating fluid.

Rock auto has dorman or ADP, I think I want to go with the genuine Ford part. Anything this hard to do, is worth using the best parts in my opinion. Thanks for the tips though.

Since my last post I replaced the craptastic manifolds with stainless shorties from Banks. I hope this is the last time I have to do these damn things. Took me eight hours to complete the job. BTW, whether you do manifolds or headers use the OEM steel gaskets, they will be less prone to leaking than other styles

Thanks, ended up getting the manifold kit from the dealer. Part number is 9L3Z-9K494-A. Kit includes manifold, gaskets, studs, nuts and washers. Studs and washers are stainless, nuts are not. Also studs and nuts to attach exhaust pipe are not included. Studs were $14 each and nuts almost $5. Kit is available on line for at least $50.00 less. Hope this helps someone else out.

I am needing to replace the passenger exhaust manifold on my '08 F150 and I am concerned about buying a manifold that's going to crack again in a year or two. Should I buy cast iron or stainless?

I replaced it with a Dorman part just as I did on the other side and wouldnt you know it, the first long trip with my travel trailer in tow the faint yet infuriating ticking came back on the drivers side once again. Its leaking at the rear cylinder and no matter how much I tighten the studs it doesnt quiet the leak. Im at my wits end with these damn manifolds! I told myself after I did the drivers side that if I ever had to replace it again I was going with headers, well since its leaking again Ive been looking at headers. My question for the guys that have gone the header route is what brand did you go with? Studs or bolts? Which gasket? Im looking at shorties just because I dont want to mess with the rest of the system, so far the Headman 304 Stainless ones look the nicest but Im open to suggestions, I really dont want to spend more than $500-600.
Mine stayed quiet right up to the time when i traded it in.

Default Yes 4.6L also have this issue.

After the holidays I plan to tackle the job. It's just been way too cold in my unheated garage the last week or so.
Also... I have a complete set of Stage 8 header bolts I found online. Its almost impossible to find the studs. Even the dealer had to order in from who knows where. But I figured while I'm down there, may as well not put the crappy studs back in and upgrade to the Stage 8. Check them out, they have impressive products and zero failures.
I do not have a 4.6L however I have seen and heard them having this same issue. However with the 4.6L it is not as common as the 5.4L. I personally feel it is more the material used for the actual exhaust manifold I just have seen metal casting not be the best solution for high temp exhaust manifolds before. Between cracking, splitting, and warping. But that's just my opinion, and I'm just an idget anyways... lol.
