5.4 buying advice. Rebuilt 2008 vs stock 2006
Alright guys, new to the forum. I'm in the market for a truck. A dealer near me has a nice '06 F150 screw 4x4 lariat with 6.5ft bed stock with 130k miles. For $2k more there's a nice '08 screw 4x4 lariat with 130k miles with a recently (started this week) rebuilt engine. Both are 5.4L's. I've driven the '06 and it drives amazing and had my shop run codes and it showed none. I have not been able to drive the rebuilt '08 yet because it's literally being rebuilt now. I have no history with rebuilt engines and this would be my first F150. Anything that should keep me from buying the rebuilt model?

A couple of comments:
1) Why did the 08 engine need to be rebuilt? 130k isn't a lot of miles. It could point to poor maintenance, which could lead to other expensive failures down the road.
2) A rebuilt engine that is well-done, would be a bonus. If it was done poorly, then it will be nothing but an expensive headache.
I'd probably lean towards the 06, and put the $2k savings in the bank in case you need to do repairs on it in the future.
