Regular 87 unless you are tuned for higher. Thats an old wives tale...or should I say mechanics tale to run higher octane to clean out a motor or make it run better. Some even think their motors are faster and last longer. It's all in the mind. The higher the octane the more resistant it is to pre-ignition due to heat and combustion chamber pressures. Here is a great read on it. Particulaly half way down titled "effects of octane rating" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating

If he coated the plug (above illustration) they should come out easier!
I would run the factory recommended octane unless your truck is tuned for a higher octane. Either way, use a name brand gas. The additives will help.

Save your money. Stick with the 87 octane. I have 204,000 miles on my '04 and I run regular 87 octane. I am getting ready for plug change #2 and hope I don't break any. If I do break some I am not going to blame my gas station. I will still throw darts a ford spark plug engineers!

spark plugs
Im not sure about this but didnt ford redesign these plugs to a one piece plug and if so cant they be used in the earlyer 3v engines and I aso heard there are also one piece plugs by another manufacture that are supposed to fit? Back to subject in most cases 87 octane reg grade gas will burn cleaner than premium the ford 3v engines were designed to run 87 octane reg fuel and if your engine is not modified you are fine. As mentioned above, if your plugs were changed correctly, you shouldn't have any issues the next time they need changing. Did the mechanic put anti-seize on the threads?
I run 93 octane in my truck. I have 87 perf, 87 tow and 93 perf Troyer tunes. My truck runs best with the 93 perf so that's what I use. I also found my truck runs best with Shell gas. Maybe it's all in my head but it works for me. Trying to save a few dollars at the pump, with this pig, seems pointless. Thankfully I only put 100-150 miles on it during a typical week.
Ran 87 with stock tunes.
I find the cheapest crap gas I can to run in the my wife's Pilot. Neither of them care.

If the engineers at Ford thought your truck would run better and be better for their motors...and get better EPA mileage...don't you think your book would tell you to run something higher than 87 octane...

Esso gas is the dirtiest gas on the market in Canada. Don't buy it!! My uncle used to work for imperial oil and told me this.
If you want your motor to be carbon free, run propane or natural gas. Gasoline is dirty, there's no arguing about it.
If you run supreme or premium gas long term your PCM will adapt and advance the spark timing. You'll know this when you switch back to regular grade, and your truck runs crappy.
