So I was driving around the other day and pulled up next to a kid in 2006ish F-150. He had gone a little nuts with the Plastidip but overall his truck wasn't bad looking. Then I saw the blacked out 5.0 badge on the side.

Now, I know there is a possibility that he swapped a 5.0 for whatever he had in there before but I'm a bit skeptical.

Does this really annoy anyone else, or is it just me? It reminds me of the kids who drive Mustangs with the 4.6 but put Cobra badges all over the place.

I'd bet my bottom dollar he doesn't have a 5.0 in there. I find it annoying as well.

You do know the Cobras came with a 4.6L right? (Recent years)

But yes, if it's false advertising, it really grinds my gears.

I had 5.0 badges on my 95 F150. But I did an HO swap so it was legit. Kinda looked silly with the badges though. Oh well, I was 17 at the time.

Doubt it too... but the 5.0 badges must increase horsepower

haha this reminds me of my Honda Civic days when kids would put "Si" badges on their base model civics.

I did not know this. Was there a Cobra appearance package or something? I know there is a lot more to a Cobra than the wheels and the badge.

The displacement was the same, but the engines were different. GTs had the SOHC 2 valve 4.6, Cobras had the DOHC 4 valve 4.6. Plus other differences depending on the year, and everything changed after 2004 when the GTs got the 3v 4.6 and the Cobra became the GT500.


As for the F150 with the 5.0 badges, maybe a 4.6 with a stroker kit? Not unusual in the Mustang world, although I don't know why someone would to that to a F150 instead of swapping in a 5.4.

The Cobras were an overall upgrade over the standard GTs. However, the 03-04 Cobras were the years where everything was put to the highest standards. Supercharged and nicknamed 'The Terminator'. (God I miss mine)
