Well I'm hoping anyways. And even the vacuum lines make sense to me.
glad it helped brother. He sent it to me years ago and it's one of the best I've ever read and used.

At work it hit me to do a simple test of the vacuum lines because of what I'd read. Pulled the lines off the right IWE and plugged the vac line.Put the guage on the left side and found 20 lbs with engine running and in 2. So I don't have a leak after all.
Well....maybe.With the engine off, does 6-7 seconds sound like enough time to hold vacuum till it dropped right off?It only dropped about 1 lb after turning the engine off up to then.
Anyways,2 IWEs are ordered and hopefully be here, and the weekend weather will be nice enough to play outside.

Update: Changed the right IWE, the seal in the old one was shot. It fixed the vacuum issue on the left side, now have about 18 1/2lbs per side.I think that's ok.
Will be changing the left side tomorrow. Neither side CV turning in 4 now with all wheels in the air.Doesn't seem right. Hoping with the left side fixed it will all come together and engage in 4x4 properly.
Truck is crappy in the snow with only 2wd.

Left side done. Unfortunately the gear teeth on the hub look to be fairly worn. But its fine because there's signs of a bad bearing on the CV spindle, and sure enough the bearing is bad. So I'll be ordering another hub/bearing assembly and getting that in. We DO have 4WD now so I'm happy about that. Went for a little test drive and I could hear what sounds to me to be the left side slipping a tooth on the IWE/hub here and there when turning left on dry pavement. The new hub I expect will fix that.
Thanks to all for your help. I hope to do the hub next weekend.

Default Thanks for the info and your military service

Just wanted to say that your post was the reason I joined the Forum. I was searching for an issue with my 2004 4x4 Lariat and your post came up when I searched for 4x4 problems. This is great info and I know what to look for with my 4x4 issues. Thanks for the info and especially your service to this country! Camo Lives Matter!

Default New 4x4 issue

I have a 2005 fx4. My dash 4wdH light remains on whether I put my selector switch into 2wd or 4wd. The truck makes a hard banging noise into 2wd while only rolling slowly but the light remains on 4wdH. If I put it back into 4wd, it engages with a bang again. I replaced the selenoid and the hub actuators and have checked the vacuum and both the selenoid and the hub actuators. All is good there. No idea what to check next. 4x4 is really not happy.
Thanks for any advice.

I am having an issue I believe is the IWEs I don't have grinding but only getting 9 mpg and my front shaft can't be turned by hand and when I lay under and someone moves it my front shaft turns , it seems to go in and out of 4h 4L but motor runs fine and no codes but has had the problem since buying it 5 months ago. Took it to the dealership paid to have the high tech fancy scan and they found nothing , this is my first experience with IWE or any new style 4x4 my only knowledge is with my old faithful 63 4x4 F-100 any advise would be greatly appreciated. I should add that for about 2 fill ups about a month ago it got about 13-14 mpg( which was great) all the sudden everything seemed exactly the same though very frustrating when it just went back to 9.

Sounds like your transfer case shift motor is stuck.. you can try tapping on it.

Your IWE system needs to be troubleshot with a vacuum pump..sounds like a leak somewhere in the lines, vacuum box, Check valve or wheel ends. Have you replace the IWE solenoid yet with the new up-dated version ?

No I haven't replaced it did make my own cover but maybe too late guess I should just pick one up and try it huh, just got done checking some things. jacked the front wheel off the ground and when I spin it with motor running it turns the half shaft and driveshaft, switch it to 4h and it gets quit a bit harder to turn but of course the shafts turn. did some you tube test on solenoid switched vacuum straight to the line no difference and with the bottom line hooked up but top off of the solenoid vac comes out of the fitting in 2 wheel but switched to 4h no vac coming out of the top hose fitting , so supposedly that makes it check out ok?. unhooked lines at the wheel and cant feel any vacuum by hand. definitely a big difference when in 4h or 4l to turn the wheels but still in all settings the front shaft and half's turn. Thanks for replying greatly appreciated.
